The products of main interest for Peru are practically exempted though there are still a few defense mechanisms that the European Union applies. Among the benefitted products are mangos, coffee, asparagus, beans, onions, avocados, citrics, artichokes, grapes, cocoa paste, lard, passion fruit and mango juice, and others having great export potential. One of the restrictions Peru confronts in the negotiation of fresh products is “Entry Prices”, which is still pending. “Entry Prices” are specific duties the European block applies to imports that have prices lower than local production and in times of high production (in season). This would not be Peru’s case. In the next round to be held by mid July, negotiations should conclude for products like bananas, meat, lamb, rice, sugar and ethanol, that are highly sensitive for the European Union and have been excepted from the accord. Nevertheless, the Minag is managing access with quotas exempted from import duties immediately. In general, the Markets Access Table has already closed various important chapters whereas in the normative area there are still pending issues, such as export subsidies, which will be negotiated in the next round. We have to keep in mind the European Union is the principal market for Peruvian agricultural exports. Photo: Generacción Tags Blogalaxia: Economy, Peru, Exports, Agricultural Products.
