Three ex-students of Pacific University are convinced that today the Internet has revolutionized the way in which people find information about a product or service. And this phenomenon does not escape the tourism sector, since today most users prefer to plan their trips, reserve tickets, consult maps on line about the destinations that they would like to visit, instead of going to travel agencies.

From this came the proposal to create Viva!. The name of an on line application that may be accessed from any iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, cellular 3G or conventional computer and that will have personalized tourist information about different locales and tours that may be taken in Cusco.

Antonio Beingolea, one of the ex-students, says that in order to access the application, it will only be necessary to join the page www.viva.com.pe and from there you will have access to a GPS, a virtual map of the city of Cusco and tourist information segmented by specific areas: the city’s cultural attractions, hotels and lodgings, trips and activities, restaurants and cafes, bars, pubs and discotheques, art and entertainment, shopping and services, events and festivals.

In this manner, the tourist that finds him/herself anywhere in the world may program his/her trip according to his/her interests. And once he/she is in Cusco , he/she will be able to utilize the application as a permanent consultation method without the necessity of having to be connected to the Internet.

Beingolea points out that to initiate his operations, he will find a main team of announcers, that will be the owners of the restaurants, pubs and other establishments. They will pay between US$250 and US$300 a year to advertise in the Viva! page, all the relevant information about the attractions and services of their locales. “The users may also be able to download discounts and promotions offered by our announcers so that they may be able to know the impact that the application generates”, he points out.

Parallel, two or three people will dedicate themselves to continually revise the activities, festivities and events in Cusco organized by Mincetur, central employers and other cultural associations that may include themselves in the Viva! page.

And even though we are dealing with a service that principally brings information about Cusco, as the page gets better known, it will be incorporating more tourist information about Arequipa, Puno, Lima and other attractions in the south of Peru. Likewise, we will position Viva! in Google as the main reference page for the tourist who wants to visit Cusco.

The tourist who is only looking to find basic information about restaurants and other locales will be able to access the Viva! page for free. But if you want more up to date information about the activities in Cusco, you will pay US$1,49 for the application.

Euromonitor International, globally recognized business by its market research, revealed today that the tourist industry of Latin America will go up again with force in the next year it will gain growth in Mexico, Peru, Chile and the Caribbean, being Brazil the indisputable star.

This growth will prompt the expansion of regional airlines, being in the middle of a war of costs and prices the encouragement of the use of airplanes will be greater to that of buses.

The most favored aeronatics business would be TACA and LAN Airlines. Nevertheless, in Brazil the Azul airline, would reach a 50 percent increment in its operations.

The tourist boom in Brazil would not be this year alone but also thanks to the execution of the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016.

On the other hand, Mexico after the blow that was left to its economy by the influenza, will recover its place, thanks to an aggressive advertising campaign, a reduction of costs and the weakening of the peso.

A main market in this strategy will be the Canadian market, there is a growing number of travelers of that area that decide to travel toward the Caribbean and South America.

The flow of tourists to the region will coincide with a growing number of trips from the region to other regions, especially to United States.

Said tendency will be favored by structural economic conditions, explained the consultant in a report delivered to DPA. One of them is the general fall of the dollar against the Latin-American economies, concluded Euromonitor International.

During the first day of the reopening of Machu Picchu, more than 1,200 visitors entered from early hours to the Inca fortress, declared Cultural Patrimony of Humanity, reported today the director of the National Institute of Culture (INC), Cecilia Bákula.

He indicated that during the 66 days that Machu Pichu was closed as a result of the heavy rains that interrupted the path of the train’s only access, last 24th of January, improvements were made to the access to this city for a greater number of tourists.

It also reported that the sale of electronic tickets for the admittance will be supplied to Machu Picchu through Internet with the security and guarantee of compliance of the quota of visitors per day. Likewise, Bákula indicated that three chemical baths will be implemented inside the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, for a greater comfort of the visitors, that is included in the plan of management.

An average of some 2,500 tourists entered Machu Picchu per day and because of it specialists have been hired to do an evaluation and study of the accesses; according to the results the quantity of visitors permitted will be reevaluated.

The director of INC assured that the prices of the entrances to Machu Picchu will not increase and will be the same as they were before the interruption of the railroad tracks. It also emphasized the positive international impact that the reopening has generated of this Inca fortress to the world tourism, for the image of the country.

It is known that the reopening of Machu Picchu to the world tourism had as godmother the actress Susan Sarandon, actress of numerous films and winner of an Oscar, who “has remained amazed” with her journey through this Inca city, and has indicated that will invite other famous people of Hollywood to come to Peru.

It stressed that the national dishes offer an additional reason to the foreign visitor to visit the country. “Because of it, one must diversify the bases of tourism, that the people continue coming to cities such as Cusco not only for archaeological wealth but also for its gastronomic wealth”, he emphasized.

He maintained that the attraction that generates the Peruvian cousine in the world encourages the act to continue working in decentralized form in the promotion of the culinary qualities of the regions, through activities such as the Peru Fair, lots of flavor”. “We did a first fair in Piura with dishes of Lambayeque, La Libertad , Tumbes and its own Piura. Now we are in Cusco and the responses have been spectacular. We have confirmed Tacna for the next edition in April”, declared.

Pérez participated in the eve of the inauguration of the gastronomic tourist fair Peru, a lot of flavor in the Imperial City, that has called on to thousands of people, between settlers and tourists, attracted by the variety of cusqueño dishes.

Let the Peruvian cousine go on!

It was organized by Achiga, the Chilean Gastronomical Association.

As the Peruvian representative, the Asociación Peruana de Chefs, Cocineros y Afines (APCCA) was present, managed by Agustín Buitrón Baca, chef and professor at the Universidad de San Martín de Porres.

The worldwide network of WACS was founded in October 1928 at the Sorbonne in Paris as a professional organization dedicated to the maintenance and betterment of the culinary norms of world cooking. Its first congress, which took place in 1930 in Paris (the last, in 2008, was in Dubai), brought together 65 delegates from 17 countries, and who represented 36 national and international associations which elected the venerable Augusto Escoffier as the first honorary president.

Currently, the master chef Gissur Gudmundsson presides over the association and brings together 11 million chefs from 92 countries. Due to the presence of the APCCA at this important meeting of cooking professionals, Peru was proposed as the seat of the world congress for 2016.

In addition, on World Chef Day (the 22nd of next October), in the city of Cusco is celebrated a day known as Chefs United against Hunger. On this day, chefs from the world round meet in order to propose their best recipes to feed people in need.
