This place is located in the northern part of the state of Arizona in the United States of North America and is, thanks to the important push it received in the first half of the XX century, a very important internal and external tourism center for the northern potency

The Grand Canyon is composed of a great quantity of rocky formations through the kength of 350 kilometers.  In this area, one finds mountain ranges with a width of up to 30 kilometers and peaks that reach an altitude of 1600 meters.

On the other hand, the canyon’s depth is so deep that it reaches a maximum of a kilometer and  a half in some determined zones.

The erosion that the Colorado River and its tributaries have affected over the rocks allows one to see more than 2000 million years of changes to the earth’s crust, becoming a privileged place to study sediments and minerals. Especially in the field of geology.

The discovery of the Grand Canyon’s occidental side was done by a Spanish conquistador names Garcia Lopez de Cardenas in 1540, although native communities lived in the area for more than 9000 years, according to archeological remains found in the place.

As a tourist destination, the Grand Canyon offers multiple attractions to the visitor. Pushed grandly by the American President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the entire area of geological formations is part of the Grand Canyon National Park.

In this park one can have emotional excursions to the border of these depressions, navigate through the torrential rapids of the affluent Colorado River.

When visiting California, there is a city that you must visit,  San Francisco. It is located at the extreme north of the San Francisco peninsula in the Pacific Ocean and it is a city that possesses a special enchantment due to the impressive attractions that it possesses, among which are found:

Chinatown: It is the neighborhood of the oldest Asian community in California, dating back to the year 1850.  It is located at the center of the city of San Francisco and its main attraction is Portmouth Square, a place where diverse activities are performed, such as Tai Chi, chess, aside from finding the Goddess of Democracy statue constructed by Thomas Marsh.

Yosemite National Park: It is located on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains and has an extension of 3000 square kilometers.  One may see, in the park,  rivers, waterfalls, cliffs, forests and a diversity of animals that offer an unequaled landscape.  Furthermore, it was declared a world landmark in the year 1984.  Due to its great diversity in flora and fauna, it is one of the largest national parks in the United States.  One may participate in tours, bike rides, camping, horseback riding among others.

Napa: Is one of the most recognized vineyard areas in the world.  It is located some 80 kilometers north of San Francisco.  Visitors to this valley have the opportunity to check out the bodegas and vineyards for free in order to learn about wine making and be able to taste  them.

Golden Gate: Is one of the most representative symbols of the city of San Francisco.  It joins the San Francisco peninsula to the southern part of Marin county.  The name of this bridge was inspired by the stretch of Constantinople which allowed Europe and Asia to communicate and was called the Golden Door.

Golden Gate National Park: is considered one of the most touristy places in the area since  one can participate in leisure and recreational activities there.  The park has an extension of 411 hectares and one can find lakes, artificial waterfalls, meadows and an open air amphitheatre, a place where a lot of shows and recitals are performed.

The Presidio: Is a place found right before reaching the Golden Gate, which is made up of old buildings.  It was built by the Spaniards during the Viceroyalty era and served as protection and transitory refuge for the military

Alcatraz Island: Is located on San Francisco Bay and it is famous for being the place where a maximum security prison was installed.  In order to get to the island, it is necessary to take boats that go out during the whole day.  During the years when the prison was functioning, reclusive personalities such as Al Capone and Robert Stroud where found there

Fisherman’s Wharf: Is a very popular neighborhood in San Francisco since there one can find many restaurants and souvenir stores.  One of this area’s main attractions are the sea lions that inhabit Pier 39, the most famous commercial zone, and who occasionally offer entertaining pirouettes.

The celebration of Carnaval, as a prelude to the Catholic season of Lent, is a tradition that extends around the western world. Lent, a time of meditation before Holy Week, is preceded by this festival in which processions, banquets, and dances, among other things, are celebrated. The most well-known carnavals in the world are those in Venice and Rio de Janeiro, however in New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States, there is a very beautiful and entertaining carnaval.

The last and most important date of the New Orleans carnaval is the day known as Mardi Gras (a phrase derived from the French, meaning “Fat Tuesday”). On this day the celebrations become bulliciosas… and happy, and bring the central processions to their highest point, like the Krewe Rex.

The Krewes or cofradias are associations of people that take care of the processions, events, or parties. They are equivalent to the samba schools of the Rio Carnaval. Some of the most well-known Krewes are: Comus (the oldest of all), Proteus, Rex, Momus, Hermes, D’Etat, Tucks, Twelfth Night Revelers, Elves of Oberon, High Priests of Mithras, and Endymion or Bacchus.

This celebration has its origins in the early French colonization of the state of Louisiana in the XVII century. The celebrations are at their height mainly in the streets of Bourbon and Canal, and Saint Charles Avenue. Contrary to what is believed outside the city, Carnaval and Mardi Gras are family celebrations with some unbridled customs appearing later in the day, but in such a way that people of every age can enjoy the party.

Every year, Mardi Gras is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday, the day marking the beginning of Lent.
