During the last three years, many changes have been underway in San José, to the benefit of the tourists who come from all over the world to visit Costa Rica. One of the most important changes for the city was the “Paseo de la Unión Europea” (‘Boulevard of the European Union’), named in gratitude for the help offered by the European Union for its construction. For stores and hotels, the contruction of this street meant that they would be located right in its path and would benefit from the increase in economic activity.

The “Casa Alfi” Hotel, founded one year after the avenue’s contruction, is an excellent choice among the wide selection available for backpackers wishing to spend the night right in the center of the capital, for an average price and with fast and safe entrance.

The hotel is located directly in front of the main entrance to the Colegio de Señoritas, a historical building declared as a “National Monument”, recently restored, and barely two blocks from the Cathedral of San José and the Central Park. The hotel serves travelers as a “Bed and Breakfast”, ideal for those who want only lodging and breakfast in order to continue their trip at the beach or to the volcanoes. Alternatively, travelers can spend their last night at Casa Alfi before heading to the airport and flying back to their countries of origin.

It is also an excellent choice for groups of around 10 people who want privacy and comfort for a reasonable price.

A variety of rooms are available, from comfortable matrimonial rooms (standard room), suites (junior suites), single rooms, and a room for handicapped individuals. Included are king beds with orthopedic mattresses, private bathroom, hot water, and wireless internet. All in a tranquil and relaxed environment – you would never believe it’s right in the center of town.

Alfred Richardson, the owner, is a United States citizen and resident in Costa Rica; he personally attends to the needs of his guests. For North American and European tourists, he offers a wide range of experiences in Central America. There’s certainly no shortage of advice for backpackers in Costa Rica for the first time and interested in first-hand experiences.
