Heredia and the Prince of Asturias

An unprepared tourist could not find any possible relation between the Prince of Asturias and the fertile lands that comprise the different populations of the province of Heredia that encircle it, with a spectacular view the Great Metropolitan Area (GAM); the Central Valley of Costa Rica.

Nevertheless, during the last visit of Don Felipe de Borbón to Costa Rica due to the ascent to the Presidency of Mrs. Laura Chinchilla, first woman occupying the first judgeship in this central american country; the Prince of Asturias was honored as an important figure in the economic, social, and political arena in the region. And, well it is worth clarifying that it is not a matter of a whim of the herediana company toward such a distinguished personality and toward the government of Spain, in an advertising eagerness. Not.

The relationship of Mr. Felipe of Bourbon and the province of Heredia is of old dates and tighten contribution. By way of example, we can mention the “Prize Prince of Asturias” of the year 1995, to the National Institute of Biodiversity of Costa Rica (private institution of investigation of biodiversity); by its contribution to the assimilation of photosynthetic nitrogen in nature; or the declaration in 2006 that the province made him “Favorite Son Herediano”. Or, to preside the ceremony of investiture as “Doctor Honoris Causes” offered by the University of Salamanca to the outgoing President of Costa Rica Mr. Oscar Arias, last December of 2009.

There are really many ties that join the royal highness with the “Province of the Flowers” as this region of singular natural beauty is known. We do not forget the immediate presence of the National Park “Braulio Carrillo”, in whose skirts lives its populations; as well as, its nine months of rain during the year and the imposing presence of the volcanos Irazú, Turrialba, Beard and Poás, nearby neighbors of these lands.

During this last visit of Mr. Felipe of Bourbon, the city Hall of Heredia, capital of the Province; in the hands of vice-mayor, Hannia Vega, handed him a model of the sports Center or “Sports Center Prince of Asturias” that is being built in the municipality; as well as some products produced in the region, among them its excellent coffee.

A walk through its different populations in a single day; is not only possible but at the same time very economic. The tourist can take a bus in the neighborhood of the main headquarters of Correos de Costa Rica, for less than one dollar, to the city of Heredia and from there to San Pablo, San Rafael, San Isidro, San José, very important: all from Heredia. All this because in Costa Rica you will find the names of all the provinces being repeated.

It will be a very pleasant walk, of beautiful panoramic views of the valley and its different populations; of colors fields cultivated and numerous streams. If your trip is during a day of summer, I promise you as a gift an impressive blue sky.
