Journey through the Museum

The Peru Gold and Arms of the World Museum of Peru is located in the Santiago de Surco district in the city of Lima (Avenue Alonso de Molina 1100, between blocks 8 and 9 of Avenue Primavera). Its creator was the collector, Miguel Mujica Gallo, whose self-named foundation is in charge of the administration of the place, currently donated to the Peruvian State.

Entrance to the Museum is achieved through a great vault similar to a bank safe deposit vault. In the area designed for Peru’s Gold, more than seven thousand pieces of gold, silver and platinum may be seen, as well as textiles and mummies pertinent to the Pre-Colombian cultures of Peru like the Lambayeque Culture, the Mochica Culture, the Vicus Culture and the Chimú Culture.

One of the more attention getting features is the variety of procedures employed by the ancient Peruvians to create its metal pieces. There are ceramics and military armaments worked in the embossing, laminating and welding techniques, to name just a few. One can also find majestic craft relics resulting from the amalgamation of various metals in the shape of animals and people representative of the different cultures.

Another of the Museum’s attractions is the Arms of the World section, collected during the founder’s visits outside of Peru. One can see swords, hand cannons, old artillery cannons, muskets, rifles, arquebuses, pistols, carbines and even uniforms that date from the XIII century B.C and whose state of preservation is admirable to admire.

Aside from the guides that perform the journey, each piece is marked with its name, the material and technique utilized and there is a multi-lingual self-guided service to broaden the information.
