Situated in the historic Palace of the 1871 Exposition, The Art Museum of Lima, or MALI, is Peru’s prime museum. The MALI’s collection of Peruvian art (with over 11,000 pieces making-up its collection) ranges from Precolonial arts to the more recent and contemporary. Collectively, the MALI encompasses roughly 3000 years of Peruvian art. It’s then that in this place alone, one could find Precolonial ceramics and textiles next to paintings, pottery and decors from the Spanish colonial age adjacent to 19th and 20th century paintings, drawings, and photography.
Anually, The MALI hosts six to seven temporary exhibits that present the best in the local and international arts. After a long remodeling project which was generously backed by Peru’s Ministry of Exterior Commerce and Tourism through its National Copesco Plan, the MALI reopened its doors in early 2010 showcasing its newly constructed hosting areas, exhibition rooms, library, cafeteria, store, and auditorium.
Opening: March 2010
