Peru will be the stage for the 2010 Longboard World Championship

For the first time, Peru will host the meeting of the most important national and international figures in Longboard. This championship will take place in the district of Huanchaco in the province of Trujillo (La Libertad).

The organizers have informed us that the tournament named “Huanchaco Longboard Pro – Perú 2010” , will be contested at El Elio beach from 27 to 30 of January of the present year. During these dates, the local community has programmed parallel diverse cultural activities like the Arribo Takaynamo and the Arrival of the Moche Gods. Among these main activities is the amphibious disembarking of the Peruvian Navy on Huanchaquito beach.

Piccolo Clemente, who possesses the National Longboard Champion title, will be representing Peru; as well as the boarders from the capital Tamil Martino and Juan José Corzo, among others. As well as the best professional boarders from the United States, Hawaii, France, Australia, Spain, South America and more will arrive for the competition; all looking to gain enough points to obtain the World Title.

The mayor, Fernando Bazán Pinillos, stated “Huanchaco has been selected as the site of this world event since its beaches, boarders and culture have always been at the forefront in the history of surfing with its millennial Caballito de Totora, considered as the first vessel created to plow the waves”.

The organization counts on the support of the municipality of Huanchaco, the IPD, the regional government of La Libertad, PromPeru, the National Police, the Navy of Peru, among other institutions.
