Three ex-students of Pacific University are convinced that today the Internet has revolutionized the way in which people find information about a product or service. And this phenomenon does not escape the tourism sector, since today most users prefer to plan their trips, reserve tickets, consult maps on line about the destinations that they would like to visit, instead of going to travel agencies. From this came the proposal to create Viva!. The name of an on line application that may be accessed from any iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, cellular 3G or conventional computer and that will have personalized tourist information about different locales and tours that may be taken in Cusco. Antonio Beingolea, one of the ex-students, says that in order to access the application, it will only be necessary to join the page www.viva.com.pe and from there you will have access to a GPS, a virtual map of the city of Cusco and tourist information segmented by specific areas: the city’s cultural attractions, hotels and lodgings, trips and activities, restaurants and cafes, bars, pubs and discotheques, art and entertainment, shopping and services, events and festivals.
In this manner, the tourist that finds him/herself anywhere in the world may program his/her trip according to his/her interests. And once he/she is in Cusco , he/she will be able to utilize the application as a permanent consultation method without the necessity of having to be connected to the Internet. Beingolea points out that to initiate his operations, he will find a main team of announcers, that will be the owners of the restaurants, pubs and other establishments. They will pay between US$250 and US$300 a year to advertise in the Viva! page, all the relevant information about the attractions and services of their locales. “The users may also be able to download discounts and promotions offered by our announcers so that they may be able to know the impact that the application generates”, he points out. Parallel, two or three people will dedicate themselves to continually revise the activities, festivities and events in Cusco organized by Mincetur, central employers and other cultural associations that may include themselves in the Viva! page.
And even though we are dealing with a service that principally brings information about Cusco, as the page gets better known, it will be incorporating more tourist information about Arequipa, Puno, Lima and other attractions in the south of Peru. Likewise, we will position Viva! in Google as the main reference page for the tourist who wants to visit Cusco. The tourist who is only looking to find basic information about restaurants and other locales will be able to access the Viva! page for free. But if you want more up to date information about the activities in Cusco, you will pay US$1,49 for the application.
