Many festivals are celebrated around the world that are recognized at an international level and cause a sensation among all. However, there are some festivals that for some us may be atypical and, certainly, out of the ordinary.
In England they celebrate the rolling cheese race, which occurs every year during the last Monday in May. This festival’s characteristic is a contest where the participants roll cheese downhill and then go chasing after it. The winner is the first one to reach and catch the cheese. Another festival celebrated in England is the world championship of grimaces; a celebration that dates, according to tradition, to 1297 and is celebrated during the month of September. The task is to perform the best grimaces using anything you can to win. The worldwide championship of wife lifting is celebrated in Finland. The game is based on Viking traditions where the men should carry away his neighbor’s wife. According to the rules, any woman above 17 is considered a wife so if you are within this age, take care in visiting this country during the month of July. Many of you have watched the Pirates of the Caribbean and have enjoyed the many experiences lived by the pirates. The 19th of September has been declared worldwide as the day to talk like a pirate. A celebration that has had progress thanks to publicity on the Internet and the religious parody Pastafarianism, a satire that protests the teaching of religious doctrine in school during the years of George Bush’s government. Just like these festivals, every country, every town should have innumerable festivals that have yet to be known or that the reasons for their celebrations seem to be out of the ordinary and forced. However, the truth is that every festival leaves its mark on its participants and the people who visit them in a way that they turn into pleasant experiences in our lives.
