Toledo is a city that is found in central Spain and belongs to the autonomous region of Castilla-La Mancha.  This city is known as the city of the three cultures since, as history tells, it was populated during centuries by Christians, Jews and Arabs.  Furthermore it is also known as the Imperial City, therefore it was headquarters of the court of Carlos I of Spain in the hispanic kingdoms.  It was declared Assembly of Artistic Landmark  in 1940, subsequently the UNESCO granted it the title of world heritage in 1987.

Geographically the city is located on a hill of 100 meters of height on the Tajo river.  The neighborhoods that conform it are very separated of the center of the city, Azucaica.  The city conserves a medieval style, but not due to this, has left sideways the technological advances and modernization.  Toledo possesses monuments, museums, churches, hermitages and palaces that cram inside its old walls.

  Cathedral

One of the main architectural pieces is called the cathedral Dives Toledana.  It was built on the old solar on the Visigoth cathedral and of the mosque.  The construction of this temple was initiated in the year 1226 and it was finalized in the year 1493.  A mixture of styles is observed due to the great number of years elapsed between the beginning and the culmination.

Among other attractions we find the Museo de la Santa Cruz, where the work of El Greco is exposed:  La asunción de la Virgen.  Also you can visit La Mezquita del Cristo de la Luz considered one of the most beautiful Arabian buildings.  Another attraction is the house museum of El Greco, where many of the objects of the painter are exposed as well as much of his work; as well as the Church of Santo Tomé, place where we find the masterpiece of El Greco, The burial of the Count Orgaz.

The city of Toledo is a museum full of history and upon visiting it we can appreciate the great quantity of stores full of craft, where we will be able to see the art of the “damasked” or to taste their gastronomy and cousine in an infinity of restaurants.  The recommendable thing  to do is to leave the car aside and begin to travel through in foot on paved streets, steep, narrow, bent, where fragments of the history of this city will be found along with a really unforgettable experience.
