How to Get Ahead in Flight Seating Arrangements

The good thing about being able to book flights online in advance (with most airlines) is that you can choose where to be seated for convenience’s sake.  Sometimes, doing so can even potentially save money.  Getting the perfect flight seating arrangement is an art, and here’s how to perfect it:

Take into consideration how long the flight will be.  If the flight is long, then try to find out what kind of entertainment will be offered by your airline through the web or by calling them directly.  I.e., what in flight movies will be made available, would any music be played, and if there will be any games present to make the flight more enjoyable.

Confirm how much space you have at your seat and prepare yourself for it whether you’ll have the luxury of a bed-seat or go through the eternal struggle for leg room in coach.  Plan accordingly!

Ask for a seat that at least reclines, and always choose the aisle seat along due to the liberty it provides.

If you are scared silly of flying, then ask for a rear seat. It has been proven that rear seats experience 40% less forces applied to the plane as well as have a higher rate of overall safety.  In case the rear doesn’t settle your fears of flying, then choose seats near the emergency exits.

Sitting near the lavatories has its advantages and disadvantages.  On one hand, it’s a great choice if your sick and require to use the facilities instantly.  However, it’s a high traffic area and any hopes of tranquility will be constantly interrupted by other passengers.

Also, don’t forget that the center of the plane is the noisiest and can be perturbing.  It’s best to avoid the center seats of the plane if you don’t want to hear the engines throughout the flight.
