Tourist attractions in San Francisco

When visiting California, there is a city that you must visit,  San Francisco. It is located at the extreme north of the San Francisco peninsula in the Pacific Ocean and it is a city that possesses a special enchantment due to the impressive attractions that it possesses, among which are found:

Chinatown: It is the neighborhood of the oldest Asian community in California, dating back to the year 1850.  It is located at the center of the city of San Francisco and its main attraction is Portmouth Square, a place where diverse activities are performed, such as Tai Chi, chess, aside from finding the Goddess of Democracy statue constructed by Thomas Marsh.

Yosemite National Park: It is located on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains and has an extension of 3000 square kilometers.  One may see, in the park,  rivers, waterfalls, cliffs, forests and a diversity of animals that offer an unequaled landscape.  Furthermore, it was declared a world landmark in the year 1984.  Due to its great diversity in flora and fauna, it is one of the largest national parks in the United States.  One may participate in tours, bike rides, camping, horseback riding among others.

Napa: Is one of the most recognized vineyard areas in the world.  It is located some 80 kilometers north of San Francisco.  Visitors to this valley have the opportunity to check out the bodegas and vineyards for free in order to learn about wine making and be able to taste  them.

Golden Gate: Is one of the most representative symbols of the city of San Francisco.  It joins the San Francisco peninsula to the southern part of Marin county.  The name of this bridge was inspired by the stretch of Constantinople which allowed Europe and Asia to communicate and was called the Golden Door.

Golden Gate National Park: is considered one of the most touristy places in the area since  one can participate in leisure and recreational activities there.  The park has an extension of 411 hectares and one can find lakes, artificial waterfalls, meadows and an open air amphitheatre, a place where a lot of shows and recitals are performed.

The Presidio: Is a place found right before reaching the Golden Gate, which is made up of old buildings.  It was built by the Spaniards during the Viceroyalty era and served as protection and transitory refuge for the military

Alcatraz Island: Is located on San Francisco Bay and it is famous for being the place where a maximum security prison was installed.  In order to get to the island, it is necessary to take boats that go out during the whole day.  During the years when the prison was functioning, reclusive personalities such as Al Capone and Robert Stroud where found there

Fisherman’s Wharf: Is a very popular neighborhood in San Francisco since there one can find many restaurants and souvenir stores.  One of this area’s main attractions are the sea lions that inhabit Pier 39, the most famous commercial zone, and who occasionally offer entertaining pirouettes.
